Welcome to Cameltow!

NOTE: If any of this information becomes out of date, inform Ren Gardner ASAP!

To start, you will want to find Tom. He’s usually hanging out in the locker room at the main Los Santos office. Speak to him and he’ll get your paperwork filed and get you signed in for the day. Afterwards, make sure you have about $200 in your pocket, as it will be needed for the next few steps. There should be an ATM available in the locker room.

Renting Your Tow-truck

Tom is kind enough to provide all workers with their own personal tow-truck for only $51! To get it, head into the tow-yard and look for a tow-truck on the far end of the lot. There is a terminal built into the grill of the truck that you can fill out your information. Once you submit it, Tom will text you a confirmation to pay for it, so remember to check your phone. This will cost $51, and it will need to be in your pockets.

Right next to the rental area is the parking area where the valet will drop off your tow-truck each day. Flex that “F1” muscle and let the valet know you need your vehicle. Be sure to stand on the middle two yellow lines for your own safety! Don’t want to get run over by the valet when they arrive!

Tow-truck Details

Your new tow truck is equipped with an automatic transmission and five cushioned seats. You are free to customize your tow-truck’s color, wheels, etc. down at Mosley’s. However, Cameltow will not pay for these changes, or vehicle repairs. Those will be coming out of your pocket.

The Dashboard has an Up and Down arrow. These will raise and lower your flatbed. While the flatbed is down, you will be unable to move the truck.

The winch is located on the front of the flatbed. Be sure to use your ALTernative eye to spot it! Also make sure to attach it to the side of the vehicle facing the flatbed, otherwise the vehicle may spin around as it is pulled.

You’ll be able to store all your equipment on the back of the flatbed. This includes spare tires, which will be important for your work.

Job Details

Check your phone for the “Job Center” app. Once you’ve signed in with Tom, you’ll be able to create a group and then start receiving work. While you can work alone, be sure to work with a partner when able!

Before you start your shift, be sure to head down to Mosley’s and pick up some spare tires. They cost $30 each and you’ll need them out in the field! Max should be able to help you out. He usually stands in the car lot area.

You will receive three types of jobs Tom will send you while signed in:

  • Vehicle breakdown: These are the most common jobs Tom will send you. Local has broken down (usually in the Sandy Shores area) and they need help. They either need:

    • A tow. This simply involves winching the vehicle onto the flatbed, and then driving it to the location Tom tells you to. Be sure to check out the FAQ section if you run into any issues while doing this.

    • A tire replacement. This is why you need tires from Mosley’s. Remove the flat tire and replace it with the spare one. IGNORE THE HANDBOOK, you cannot fix a flat tire.

  • Vehicle Impound: Currently, these only show up if a police officer has requested an impound. Be sure to accept these when they show up! They usually involve simply driving to the location and towing the requested vehicle.

  • Mosley Delivery: When someone buys a vehicle at Mosley’s, Tom will send out a request for one of us to pick it up from the port. Pretty simple: drive down there, pick up the vehicle, and drop it off at Mosley’s. They pay top dollar for these jobs, so be sure not to pass on them!

Alternatively, you can drive out into the city and find your own tows!

This involves several steps:

  1. Find a vehicle that is parked illegally. To identify these cases, be sure to use the rules section, which helps cover the current laws in the city.

  2. Take a picture of the vehicle. Be sure to include the license plate, and make sure it shows clearly why it is illegally parked.

  3. Unfortunately, our system cannot store images, so you’ll need to upload your photo to an image hosting site and acquire a link for it. At the moment I would recommend using kappa.lol. There is also an app you can get for your phone called ShareX that can help streamline this process. Do note though that the link must end with a file extension such as “.png”. If you use kappa.lol, be sure to append “.png” onto the end of the URL (and test the URL to make sure it works).

  4. Once you have the link, walk up to the vehicle and file an impound request by flexing your “F1” muscle. Once you submit the report, you will immediately start the job.

  5. Put the vehicle on the flatbed and take it to the garage Tom tells you to.

Impound Release

Sometimes we need to pull a vehicle out of the impound for a customer. This can be done with the impound records located at the front desk.

You can lookup an impound record with the owner’s state ID, or the license plate of the vehicle (AND BE SURE REMEMBER IT). Once you pull up the record, you can send the Release Bill by inputting a state ID (this does not have to be the owner’s). You will receive a notification on your phone when the bill has been paid.

Once it is paid, navigate back to the impound record and approve the release.

Navigate back to the impound record AGAIN and have it delivered from storage. The impound lot will drop it off right outside the locker room door.

End of Shift

Once you are done for the day, be sure to return the tow-truck the same way you retrieved it. If the valet isn’t answering, be sure to stand within the yellow lines!

FAQs

I’ve put the requested vehicle on the flatbed. Why isn’t Tom providing the drop-off location?

The device that detects vehicles on the back of the tow-truck is a little finicky. Perform the following steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Make sure the flatbed is raised.

  2. Hop out and detach the vehicle from the flatbed.

  3. Hop back in and lower and raise the flatbed.

When will Tom trust me with <insert item here>?

Be patient! It will take awhile to gain Tom’s trust. If you are really desperate to get a hold of a particular tool, reach out to other workers in the Lemon List or Twatter. They should be able to help you out in the mean-time.

My tow-truck ran out of gas! How do I get to the gas station?

UPDATE: Ammunation now sells jerry cans for $500. You can take these to a nearby gas station, fill them up, and then use it on your tow truck.

Unfortunately, we are unable to push the tow-trucks around, and we also can’t winch them. You’ll need the help of another tow-truck driver to do the following:

  1. Lower the flatbed under the stuck tow-truck.

  2. Once it is lowered, quickly raise it back up. This make take several attempts.

  3. Once you’ve reached the drop-off, KEEP THE FLATBED RAISED, and just detach the vehicle. Once it has dropped off, drive away until it is fully off the flat-bed.

Vehicle is stuck to my flatbed! How do I remove it?!

Sometimes the tires can get stuck to the flatbed. Perform the following steps:

  1. Raise the flatbed. Lower the flatbed.

  2. Have the DRIVER of the tow-truck hop out and detach the vehicle.

  3. Once it is detached, hop onto the flatbed and briefly touch the vehicle. You should notice the vehicle briefly move.

  4. You should now be able to push the vehicle off the flatbed. If you are unable to push it, ask another worker to try.

Why does Tom keep sending me to Paleto?

Because he hates you.
